How long should a business plan be?
For most small businesses, 3–6 printed pages of substance beats 40 of padding. Every section here filled honestly produces exactly that.
Why write the executive summary last?
Because it summarises the plan — you can't compress thinking you haven't done yet. Write sections 2–10, then distil them into a summary a stranger could act on.
Do I need a business plan for a bank loan or grant?
Almost always, yes — lenders want the financials and market sections especially. Check the specific grant or lender's required headings; this structure covers the standard set.
Is my plan private?
Yes — it saves only in this browser on this device and is never uploaded. Print or save the PDF as your working copy and backup.
How often should I update it?
Quarterly, or whenever reality diverges from the plan — which it will. The plan's value is the comparison between what you expected and what happened.
