Static PDFs — intake sheets, applications, order forms — get printed, filled by hand, and scanned back in, which is slow and hard to read. Adding real fillable fields lets anyone type directly into the file in their PDF reader and, if you pair it with a Fill PDF Form step, keeps the data typed rather than scrawled.
This tool renders each page of your PDF so you can see exactly where you're placing a field, then writes genuine AcroForm text fields and checkboxes into the PDF's structure at those positions using pdf-lib. The result opens in any standard PDF reader as an interactive form — not a static image with boxes drawn on it.
It's a companion to Fill PDF Form (for filling in the fields you've just created) and Flatten PDF (for permanently baking in the filled values once the form is complete).

What does this tool actually add to my PDF?
Real, fillable AcroForm fields — text boxes and checkboxes — embedded in the PDF's structure. Anyone opening the result in Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, or most PDF readers can click into the fields and type, exactly like any fillable government or business form.
How do I position the fields?
Click 'Add Text Field' or 'Add Checkbox' to drop a field onto the currently displayed page, then drag it to where you want it. Use the width slider next to a text field in the list to resize it.
Can I add fields across multiple pages?
Yes. Navigate to each page using the page controls and add fields there — every field remembers which page it belongs to.
Can I name each field?
Yes, each field gets an editable name (shown in the field list below the page) — this is the internal field name that shows up when the form is filled programmatically or its data is exported.
What if my PDF already has form fields?
New fields are added alongside any existing ones — nothing already on the form is removed. If a name collides with an existing field, try renaming it before creating the form.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is rendered, edited, and saved entirely in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib — it never leaves your device.
