The Pixelate Image tool breaks a photo into solid-colour blocks, either across the whole image for a blocky stylised effect, or just inside a box you drag over one area — the classic way to obscure a face, a number plate, or a chunk of text in a screenshot before sharing it.
At a reasonable block size, pixelation genuinely destroys the underlying detail rather than just hiding it visually, because each block becomes a single averaged colour. Everything runs in your browser — your photo is never uploaded to a server.

Can I pixelate just a face or part of the photo?
Yes — tick "Pixelate selected area only", then drag and resize the box over the face, text, or object you want to hide. Everything outside the box stays sharp.
Is pixelating an image reversible? Can someone un-pixelate it?
At normal pixel-block sizes the detail is genuinely destroyed — averaging a block of pixels into one solid color removes the original information, and it can't be mathematically reconstructed. Use a larger block size for stronger, more irreversible obscuring.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Pixelation happens on your own device using your browser's canvas engine — the image is never transmitted anywhere.
What block size should I use?
Small values (6-12px) give a light stylised pixel-art look while keeping shapes recognisable. Larger values (20px+) obscure detail much more strongly and are better for hiding faces, license plates, or sensitive text.
Does pixelating reduce the image resolution?
No — the output keeps the same pixel dimensions as the original. Pixelation flattens detail within blocks rather than shrinking the image.
Can I use this to create a retro pixel-art style effect?
Yes — a moderate block size (8-16px) applied to the whole image gives a simple blocky pixel-art look. For true pixel-art conversion with a limited color palette, a dedicated pixel-art tool will give more control.
Can I download, print or email the pixelated image?
Yes — Download saves the pixelated copy, Print opens it in a print-ready tab (from which you can also choose Save as PDF), and Email sends it via your device's share sheet where supported, or your mail app with a reminder to attach the downloaded file.
