What Makes a Good Quote?

A professional quote does three jobs: it tells the client exactly what they're getting (clear line items beat one vague lump sum), it protects you (a validity date stops someone accepting a six-month-old price after your costs have risen), and it sets payment expectations up front in the notes — deposit requirements, payment terms, what's excluded. If you're registered for GST, always show it as a separate line; clients claiming input tax credits need to see it, and quoting "plus GST" without the dollar figure causes disputes.

Number your quotes sequentially (Q-0001, Q-0002…) so you can reference them later when a client accepts — the quote number then flows onto your invoice. If you need the invoice side, our Premium Invoice Generator remembers your business details between sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I save the quote as a PDF?

Click Print / Save as PDF, then in the print dialog choose "Save as PDF" as the destination (available in every modern browser on desktop and mobile). You get a clean A4 document with none of the website around it.

Should I include GST in my quote?

If you're registered for GST, yes — tick the GST box so it shows as a separate 10% line. If you're not registered (under the $75,000 turnover threshold and haven't opted in), leave it unticked and don't mention GST at all.

How long should a quote be valid for?

30 days is the common default. Use shorter validity (7–14 days) when material prices move quickly, and state it clearly — after the date, you're free to re-quote.

Is a quote legally binding?

Once a client accepts a quote, it generally forms the basis of a contract for the described work at the stated price — which is why accurate line items and clear exclusions in the notes matter. For significant jobs, consider formal terms and conditions.

Is my client's information stored anywhere?

No. Everything you type stays in your browser on your device — nothing is uploaded, stored, or logged. Refreshing the page clears the form.
